The public educational system in New Zealand is one of the best funded in the world. According to rating New Zealand has the highest levels of literacy, mathematics and sciences. The educational system focuses on both practical and academic achievement. Public education system focuses on being open-minded and letting children explore, thus allowing them to learn in the best way that they can. This gets them ready for college or the workplace upon finishing their secondary education..

There are 3 levels in the educational system in New Zealand : First level is Early childhood wherein children ages three to five years old can go to an ECE service (Early Childhood Education), Primary and Secondary schools are the second level of education it is free between the ages of five until the end of the calendar year following their 19th birthday it is for schools that are funded by the government. The third level is the Further Education it includes higher or so called tertiary education and vocational education that provides training and certificates to help students get the skills they need to become job ready.

At the early childhood level, the aim is to lay the foundations for lifelong success. It will help children develop into a positive, confident and capable individuals they will be able to learn how to:

· form friendships
· play and explore
· be courageous and try new things
· ask questions and have a say
· meet people outside their whānau (family)
· learn to relate well to other children in a group
· sing, dance, and play games
· think and solve problems
· take turns, negotiate, and share
· understand their own feelings and those of others
· learn about disagreements and how to manage these
· learn about words, numbers, and how things work
· have conversations with children and adults
· begin to understand and make sense of the world around them.

The school aims to make every child care centers a home away from home, where children learn life skills in a caring and nurturing environment. Their goal is to provide each child with a positive supportive and emotionally safe environment. As well as teachers provide purposeful experiences that introduce children to early concepts of maths, science, art, reading and other curriculum areas.

The school offers a Place Based education wherein the children in Montessori Kilbirnie had an amazing trip in different places, through this activity kids were able to explore things and their surroundings.

Following the Montessori as a method of education this creates a safe and nurturing environment for each child and individual opportunities to develop each child’s potential. Children also develop a solid grounding in numbers, reading and writing.

Some of the learning opportunities the Be School Ready initiative offers includes:

· Numeracy skills
· Understanding the world
· Creativity, arts and music
· Sharing and relating to others
· Physical and gross motor skills
