The education system of the Philippines has been highly influenced by the country’s colonial history. That history has included periods of Spanish, American and Japanese rule and occupation. The most important and lasting contributions came during America’s occupation of the country, which began in 1898. It was during that period that English was introduced as the primary language of instruction.

The Philippine Constitution provides for free and compulsory elementary and free secondary education through the Department of Education (public schools). Education is offered through formal system which consist of Kinder (1 year), elementary (6 years), junior high school (4 years), senior high school (2 years) and tertiary level. And non-formal system of Education or so called Alternative Learning System that carried outside the framework of the formal system to provide selected types of learning.

In the K - 12 Curriculum it is compulsory to enroll children aged four to five years old to a kindergarten wherein students learn the alphabet, numbers, shapes, and colors through games, songs, and dances in English, Filipino and their Mother Tongue. By six years old the child is expected to be in Grade 1 and so on.

【The kindergarten curriculum focuses on the following areas】

Physical Development: through play and manipulative activities like games. Personal-Social Development: abilities to follow rules and routines. Learning about the family and other people.

Affective Development: develop love for God, self, others and the community, and develop awareness of their feelings and sense of the right and wrong.

Cognitive Development: development of communication skills. Express ideas and feelings both English and Filipino. And develop numeracy skills the ability to understand, count, read and write numbers.

Creative-Aesthetic Development: exploration of sounds, music and rhythms, and the development of children’s creative expression through drawing, painting, manipulative activities,
